Sampad presents Sabha
The first half of the show will be a beautiful journey through space and time, delving into some great music traditions from diverse cultures from around our globe. Beginning with the aboriginal sound of the didgeridoo accompanied by the ancient Indian drum the pakhavaj; moving to the talking drums of Africa accompanied by the tabla tarang (a melodic form of tabla); then travelling to India, playing the traditional classical form of raga and taal. Finally the journey will reach a crescendo playing modern jazz music.
The second half of the show will see tabla and percussion maestro Mendi, performing from his new album, Rhythm Thunder, which will be launched on the night. The program will be a dynamic expression of western dance music with percussive Indian classical and world rhythms. Mendi will be collaborating with the UK’s foremost singers, MCs and dancers. The concert will bring together a unique blend of cultures producing an exciting and energetic sound.
